To help us gain a deeper understanding of James’ Executive Coaching experience, we asked him a series of questions.

Here are his responses…

What did the coaching experience mean to you in terms of your journey as a leader?
The coaching experience has meant a lot to me in my journey as a leader. This experience has changed the way I view myself, other people, and allowed me to really know what I want and what I don't want out of my journey.

Describe your coaching experience. What did it look like? What was your relationship with your coach like? How did the sessions go?
My coaching experience looked like starting in a group, learning how to deal with the other group members, followed by individual coaching sessions that allowed me space to talk, learn, grow and test things before applying them in the real world. I felt like the sessions were extremely beneficial in learning to listen and having to answer questions no one had ever asked me before.

In what ways did your coaching experience contribute to your personal growth, both professionally and personally?
My coaching experience contributed to my growth professionally by allowing me to learn how my behaviors impact other people and what I needed to change which allowed me to become a better leader and have better relationships especially when dealing with tough situations. For my personal growth, it has allowed me to learn to be more clear and to listen to my spouse and not just respond.

What would you say to someone considering executive coaching? Why might it be worth pursing?
I would say that the techniques used in executive coaching will allow you to get your team to open up to one another and build relationships that will allow them to work more efficient and effective together.

How did the Team Development Experience impact you as a leader? How did it work in conjunction with your Executive Coaching Experience? What was the ROI of the Team Development Experience?
The team development experience impacted me as a leader because of learning the life stories, learning that we had more in common than I thought and the ROI was just the relationship building that gained more trust and let me put my guard down.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your experience with Bloombase that we haven't asked about?
Overall, I learned a lot about myself and once you know yourself that gives you the best chance to perform because you know what works, what doesn't and how you can adjust yourself to be effective.
