Renewal and Growth Mindset

Sheri Lynn Fella

As I find my rhythm in this new year, I find myself wanting to renew my perspective, my approach, my lens of how I see and experience the world.

As spring approaches, I notice I feel my energy begin to move to a new level of acceleration, in order to sustain that new level, I know I have to make sure that my mind doesn’t accelerate with it … that I find a way to reground again and again to a space of ease and presence. Without that ease, it is hard for me to experience a feeling of renewal which is essential for my growth.

When I read the attached article, it gave me some helpful reminders of what growth mindset is and isn’t and how important it is in the process of renewal.

That new level of energy that I described is my motivation for living the life I have created as a result of my desire to learn and to continue learning. Learning is growth for me. It refreshes my view, it renews my engagement, and it gives me space to grow into new places.

Growth and learning and “getting better” is something that invigorates me, but if I hold too tightly to an outcome or to a comparison or to any sort of judgment, I find it has the opposite effect. It shuts me down, steals my energy and significantly reduces my motivation to continue.

In 2020, I hope you notice what feels renewing to you. When do you feel like you are growing yourself versus judging yourself? How can you use your awareness to shift to a view that energizes you? May your growth mindset be a positive learning curve, and provide a sense of opportunity and not expectation, as you navigate the year ahead.

This is what leaders often get wrong about growth mind-set
