Celebrating OURstory

Sheri Lynn Fella

The thing about Women’s History is that it is really OURstory… the stories of the bold and the brilliant. The risk takers and the stabilizers. The activists and the quiet innovators. Our collective history as women is ever-evolving to the point that it includes more than just those of us who identify as women… and that feels right because women’s history is the history of humans, not only an outdated definition of a gender. So let’s start there.

Without humans who are given the anatomy to potentially reproduce, there would be no human history to celebrate or human future to look forward to. We have literally birthed the human race, so damn straight - that is something to celebrate, to highlight, to learn from, to honor… as is all the other birthing we do as humans. From ideas to movements, from the White House to our diverse homes, to new discoveries in science and to new frontiers on Mars - have you seen those videos from NASA?! AMAZING!!

Without women, there would be no human history timeline. And it sure does feel good to own that timeline and join together as humans to honor the many contributions we have all offered to our collective history - not as genders, but as a species.

For us at Bloombase, we strive to celebrate this month, and the last month of Black History, every day in our actions and in our intentions. This month - and for the months ahead - we honor both histories, and really all human stories, by sharing our own learning in our Power TO podcast where for the foreseeable future, we will share a series called, FIGHT FORWARD - the first episode of which is available now here.

Fight Forward is something we are learning from many wise sages, but especially from the cavernous wisdom and grace of black women. Some of whom sit with us in this upcoming podcast space to explore hard, awkward, inspiring and hopeful conversations about how the past can teach us and how we can shape a future together. ALL of us… particularly us white women, who in my opinion, have an important responsibility and limitless opportunity to change the long arc of history and bend it as an inflection point toward broader positive impact, toward inclusion and equity - where ALL of us can realize our maximum potential.

The gratitude we have for the shoulders we stand on is too immense to contain in a singe list of names and bios. So many before us are certainly worthy of that recognition, and I trust we will see a lot of amazing women highlighted in our media and social feeds this month. For that, we are grateful to all of you for the learning that will come from all that you highlight and share. For our team, we are going to honor those shoulders from OUR history by taking action.

Actions that will continue to include deep listening, expansive learning, and commitment of our resources - time, energy, money, and motivation. And focused actions that will result in impact… from expanding the diversity of our own learning and team, to opening up channels of inclusion with our client parters, to sharing our own awkward, hard journey of unlearning, and more. We have a lot to UNlearn starting with our bias and the inaccurate history we were taught, and we feel grateful to get an opportunity to do so. Our privilege can inspire great change if we continue to summon our courage and humility.

Growth is required of ALL of us to co-create a future FOR all of us. We are committed to that journey, and we look forward to traveling that path of change with all of you.
