“Since beginning this journey, I’ve become much more intentional about the questions I ask and how I listen to those around me. We asked Samantha a series of questions to get to know her better.
Here are her responses…
What did the AWL experience mean to you in terms of your journey as a leader?
Participating in AWL required me to set aside dedicated time for my personal growth as both a professional leader and a person—a challenge that didn’t come naturally to me. Since beginning this journey, I’ve become much more intentional about the questions I ask and how I listen to those around me. This shift has truly been the most transformational part of my experience.
Describe the benefits of the AWL experience.
The benefits included listening to other women share their journeys and applying their lessons to my own world and industry. I also loved the opportunity to support others. A major benefit was being encouraged to focus on myself—something I might not have done otherwise. If I hadn’t been required to step away from everything else to reflect on my values and vision, I don’t think I would have ever done it on my own. That has proven to be very helpful as I am leading and making decisions.
What was it about AWL that made you feel you had an ROI from the experience?
Being able to firmly state what my values are.
What did you walk away with from AWL and what are you continuing to learn about yourself?
I am feeling more confident in my leadership and my desire to take on new professional opportunities. I am still learning what my next professional steps might be!
What would you say to someone considering the AWL experience?
This will challenge you. It is not for everyone but the more you invest in to the program the more you will take away.
My favorite way to spend an afternoon by myself is... a workout and a walk by the river.
The kind of work I’m most passionate about is... work where I can make an impact. I prefer transformational over transactional work.
Something that makes my life ridiculously fun is... my family—Matt, Maribel and Maverick.
The values/behaviors that are most important to me are... honesty, drive, empathy, laughter and good taste in music. Not always in that order!
How I would like to impact the world right now is... one day at a time, one person at a time, one 'hello' at a time ... I want to make an impact where I am. Then, that can ripple across communities, towns, cities, and beyond.
