We asked Denetta a series of questions to get to know her better.
Here are her responses…
Describe the six months you spent in the Bloombase experience for Advanced Women Leaders.
The Bloombase Experience for Advanced Women Leaders (AWL) provided a transparent learning climate to enhance my leadership skills and developmental growth. It was inspirational to engage with other women leaders practicing accountability and fostering our leadership framework in a judgment-free zone. Each learning session went deeper by adding another layer of emotional intelligence and neuroscience research. I have implemented several of AWL’s methodologies which makes my daily life experiences richer and more satisfying.
Describe the benefits of the AWL experience.
AWL allowed me to see myself in others. I valued hearing the stories of other women, the challenges, and the successes. The AWL experience was different from most others in that it lasted long enough to build capabilities to carry beyond AWL. We had a highly diverse group of women with a wide range of experience. The AWL experience allowed each woman to have a unique experience and share a similar journey at the same time.
Describe the benefits of being a part of the post AWL community.
AWL is a transformational, behavior change experience with high-impact, in-depth, developmental experiences that fundamentally transform the way leaders lead, learn and construct relationships. The AWL community is a profound and respected network, linking our alumni together to collaborate and sustain our learning.
What did you get out of the Executive Coaching sessions?
My coach encouraged me throughout the entire process. After each session, I felt a great sense of clarity and inspiration. I now understand that leadership growth does not have to be complicated. I appreciate her professionalism, knowledge, and accessibility.
What would you say to someone else considering this experience?
The AWL experience will help you to internalize your leadership style, add clarity to your vision, values and promote self-confidence. AWL has taught me to navigate through difficult situations with boldness and courage and not regret past experiences that I can no longer change. AWL emphasizes that self-awareness and empathy are central skills. It is a great way to invest in your development and overall leadership growth.
What was it about AWL that made you feel you had an ROI from the experience?
AWL has assisted me to integrate all of my leadership styles to a higher level. I am now a more courageous change agent for higher productivity.
My favorite way to spend an afternoon by myself is... listening to soft music, reading, and practicing yoga breathing techniques.
To me, leadership is… empowering others to be leaders. An effective leader anticipates both potential obstacles and opportunities while teaching and promoting others to be leaders. A true leader understands without great followership they would not have great leadership. Leaders surround themselves with diverse people to generate stellar ideas leading to valuable impacts.
The legacy I want to leave is… a humanity blue print that emphasizes empathy, humility and the use of equity to all people regardless of their race, gender, or creed. I embrace all people and do not just tolerate them. If we all take more time to get to know someone, we will often see more similarities between us than differences.
How I would like to impact the world right now is… by standing up for my world social system and by doing random acts of kindness for people in general that may need assistance, without expectation of rewards or recognition. In addition, surround myself and network with like-minded leaders who can help make an impact on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
